Marketplace Fairness Act Passes Senate, Moves on to House

On May 6, the Senate voted 69 to 27 to approve the Marketplace Fairness Act of 2013. The measure authorizes states to enforce State and local sales and use tax requirements on most remote sellers. The Bill does not authorize or create new State taxes, but it would permit States to collect sales and counterpart use taxes on remote sellers, such as internet retailers. The measure is before the House.
